Good safe for
the money
By PickyGuy (Omaha, NE USA)
I did a bit of research before deciding to buy
this safe. I've received and and placed in in the house and I'm
very pleased with it.
This is a heavy safe (182 lbs) and it takes two
strong people to move it. The weight is an advantage because
only a very strong burglar will be able to remove it by
himself.
It only has a 1 hour fire rating (for paper,
not electronic media) and while I'd like a longer rating, I
didn't want to pay much more than I did.
This safe is also "waterproof" and I imagine
that this is as important as fireproof.
The digital codes are very easy to set and
reset. This unit also comes with two keys which will open the
safe (obviously you will want to hide the keys away far from
the safe).
This safe is larger than most inexpensive safes
at 2 cubic feet and I don't feel that it is too large.
It looks to be well made and it's backed by a
large company that can help you if ever you lock the safe,
forget the combination, lose the keys as you can still call
Honeywell and give them the serial number. After some length of
interrogation, I think that they can help you open the
safe.
Lastly, you can spend thousands or tens of
thousands on a safe that is burglar-proof. I didn't want to go
that far. I think I made a good choice.

Fireproof/Waterproof Honeywell
2087D Safe
By Dewey E. Hagan (Langley, WA United
States)
This is an excellent product but unfortunately
the packaging is about a one star rating. The first safe was
badly damaged upon receipt. Amazon quickly rectified the
problem by letting me return the damaged product ant no cost to
me. They also shipped me a replacement product immediately.
The second safe also had minimal damage which
did not affect the functionality. It was clear to me that
Honeywell does not provide enough packaging to protect this
heavy product. As a result through normal handling damage
occurs.
After receiving the safe I had to call
Honeywell customer service because the safe was locked and
there were no instructions included that told what to do if the
safe was locked. Honeywell gave excellent support and the
representative stayed on the line until I was totally confident
on setting up the safe.
The setup was a snap and the operation of entry
and closing the safe went without incident. I was pleased with
the size as I can place letter size documents either in a
standup or laydown position. The key holder and the adjustable
shelf is also a plus. I'd recommend this safe to anyone wishing
for a digital safe combination. The lighted dial really makes
entering the combination easy.

Great Buy
By Gregory Brown (Barrington, RI)
I was in real need of a safe for college next
year and after looking around I thought this would be a good
buy. It had all the features I was looking for and at a price
significantly less then the competition. After reading the
buyer reviews about broken and damaged safes I was a little
concerned but I decided to go ahead and make the purchase.
Two days later the safe arrived and it was in
perfect condition. The safe was sent directly by the
manufacturer and it was packed very carefully within its box.
With the type of packaging they used I don't know how it could
have been damaged.
I don't know if they changed their shipping
methods after reading the earlier reviews but I can assure you
that they are doing a great job now. I would highly recommend
this safe to anyone.

How Safes Factor
In Home Security
Most of the valuable items that people have are
small enough to fit in safes, making a safe an appropriate
accessory that every home should
have.
Documents such as hand-signed wills, rare stamps, cards, and
other collectibles are just some of the small yet valuable
items you may find more comfortable to have in safes rather
than lying around exposed in your house.
Different Types of Safes for Home Security
Safes are available in a wide range of sizes so
you are sure to find one that suits your needs. Many people
find small wall safes useful, as they offer not only the added
protection of thick steel, but can be hidden behind paintings,
in a stairwell, or some other place that would be difficult to
locate. Some people even choose to install their safes in the
floor.
Safes are also available in other sizes,
ranging from those the size of desk drawer to large ones the
size of an entire room. Those that fall in the latter category
are not used solely as bank vaults, but in some cases are
constructed as panic rooms. Smaller safes can be used to store
valuables such as money and jewelry, while larger ones can
store much larger items such as guns.
There is also a wide range of materials used in
the construction of safes, from simple hard plastic to those
made using titanium alloy pieces an inch thick. Walls made
using the latter material are not only close to impenetrable,
they also protect against fire. Thick walls do not provide
complete protection, however, as a large fire will cause the
interior of the safe to heat up enough to melt jewelry and
combust paper.
Some safes, instead of being constructed so as
to be impenetrable, take advantage of camouflage instead. Known
as "can safes", these safes, while far from being impenetrable,
are disguised as regular household items that nobody would
suspect contained valuables. If you do make use of such safes,
however, you should not tell too many people about them, as
word has a way of spreading to unsavory ears.
Innovative Features Of Modern Safes
Some of the more modern models feature
computer-integration or are electronic, and can be programmed
such that they can only be accessed at certain times of the
day. This helps to prevent kids from figuring out the
combination and getting into your valuables. Electronic safes
can also be equipped with modern safety features such as
fingerprint readers. This is useful because it removes the need
for a password or numerical combination.
Regardless of what type of size and security
you require, you are sure to find safes that suit your
needs.
