What are driveway alarms and what are they used for? This is a device that many people are unaware of but should be with the law and order situations degenerating all over the world. While a driveway alarm is normally intended to detect intrusion on ones property a magnetometer alarm will only detect large metallic objects like the rims of a car or other vehicle. It will not detect movement and so anyone intruding on the property on foot will not set off the alarm.

There are other alarm systems that detect movement as well and depend on movement sensors or laser systems in order to set the alarm off. But here again there are some drawbacks. The alarm will go off when ever someone crosses it, great that is what it is meant for, but then again what if a cat, dog or a bird happens to trip the alarm. This could turn out to be quite a nuisance.

There are other forms of driveway alarms that trigger when a weight happens to step on them. These are pneumatic alarms and there are many models. When the alarm is triggered along with the sound, light or SMS the recording system sets on the camera that begins to record the intruders every move. This is one way to identify and track down the criminal if need be in case it is not possible to apprehend him or her on the spot.
