Driveway Alarms Making Your Property Safer

home with driveway alarmWhat are driveway alarms and what are they used for? This is a device that many people are unaware of but should be with the law and order situations degenerating all over the world. Driveway alarms are not necessarily used only in driveways but can be used to detect intrusions on ones property 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When installed in the driveway these alarms trigger a warning device when a vehicle enters or leaves the driveway alerting the inmates of the building of the movement.

There are many types of driveway alarm systems. Some are wireless while some depend on a magnetometer to detect movement. There is a driveway alarm built for every purpose and budget.

Beginning with the magnetometer based alarm that depends on some metal object to drive past it in order to trigger the alarm one will easily detect the drawback of this device. While a driveway alarm is normally intended to detect intrusion on ones property a magnetometer alarm will only detect large metallic objects like the rims of a car or other vehicle. It will not detect movement and so anyone intruding on the property on foot will not set off the alarm.

There are other alarm systems that detect movement as well and depend on movement sensors or laser systems in order to set the alarm off. But here again there are some drawbacks. The alarm will go off when ever someone crosses it, great that is what it is meant for, but then again what if a cat, dog or a bird happens to trip the alarm. This could turn out to be quite a nuisance.

There are other forms of driveway alarms that trigger when a weight happens to step on them. These are pneumatic alarms and there are many models. These driveway alarms can be set to trigger when a certain minimum weight passes over a sensor. Now these alarms will not trigger if a lightweight animal treads on the sensor, definitely not a bird. So these kind of driveway alarms seem to be just right to sort out who and what will trigger the alarm.

Now this brings us to the type of alarm the driveway alarms use to warn the people concerned. And when we say people concerned we do not mean the intruders. Those are the guys we are trying to apprehend right? What we need is a silent type of alarm such as a flashing light as opposed to a sound alarm. But a flashing light may fail to catch ones attention and with both the forms of alarms, the lights and the sound, the property caretaker will have to be present in order to detect the alarm.

This is where the wireless driveway alarms come into play. These neat devices are able to send a wireless signal to an alarm that can be as far as 3000 feet away. So, unknown to the intruder he or she will be watched and probably apprehended as well. There are new improved versions of the wireless driveway alarm system as well. These are driveway alarms that send a text message to a mobile phone when an intruder trips the system. There is no limit to the distance in this form of alarm system. No matter where the property owner is he or she will get the text message instantly when the alarm is triggered.

Driveway alarms can have any number of sensors. Currently the triggering system we refer to as sensors begin at two and can be increased to as many as 16 and with some optional equipment these can be increased to any number. So if they are placed in strategies positions on the property they can work as an automatic security guard for the entire estate.

Normally these alarms set off for a minimum of 15 minutes but this time can be increased or decreased. The alarm will go off and stay on by default for 15 minutes until the reset button is pressed. This button is on the consol as well as on the remote in remote controlled models. The system can be set to sound a different alarm for each sensor enabling the operator to know exactly which point the intrusion has been perpetrated.

Driveway alarms can be set up to trigger a video camera attached to a recording device such as a magnetic tape video recorder or a digital recorder or even a personal computer. When the alarm is triggered along with the sound, light or SMS the recording system sets on the camera that begins to record the intruders every move. This is one way to identify and track down the criminal if need be in case it is not possible to apprehend him or her on the spot.

There is no doubt that driveway alarms are a great way to secure whole properties not just driveways.
