Some say that crime is the price we all have to pay for living in civilization.Assuming that this is true home security is something we should all be concerned with. There are currently thousands of products on the market geared toward protecting ones home from crime.Everything from the security yard signs, to the full blown professionally installed and monitored alarm systems by the national companies like ADT or Broadview.
With all of these options, price is going to be the main determining factor.I you are currently in the market for an alarm system in the two hundred to three hundred dollar range, that can be installed by the homeowner, the AAS-V500 Wireless Home Security System should be at the top of your list.
The AAS-V500 is manufactured by AAS INC. They manufacture easy to install do it yourself home security systems.Everything from models with pet immune motion detectors, to systems that use cellular phone networks.
This wireless home security system is geared toward the DIY homeowner. If you can differentiate between a Philips head screwdriver and a flat head you should have no problem installing this particular system. Also the fact that it retails for less than two hundred and eighty dollars will appeal to those those that are on a budget and would like to avoid monthly monitoring fees.
The three features of this system that i like most; are multiple sirens, especially the exterior mounted unit, the ability for the system to expand to almost one one hundred zones of protection, and last but not least the auto phone dialer.
99 zones of security
The AAS-V500 comes with 99 zones of protection… that is great but what does it really mean.Imagine a burglar breaking into your home .If your alarm system only has a single zone, it probably would not be able to tell you exactly where the alarm was generated, only that your homes security was breached.
With multiple zones you will not only be made aware of the breach, but will be given the exact location…front door, living room window, garage door etc. Another benefit of having multiple zones is the ability to disable specific areas of coverage rather than the entire system. It is a way of compartmentalizing your protection.
DIY alarm monitoring
Other than the quality of components used , the other main selling point of a monitored alarm system is the fact that a live person will be monitoring and responding to any alarm activations.
Now you can do this without paying a monthly fee…well, sort of. Introducing the auto phone dialer. With this feature you are able to record a message that will be broadcast to up to six telephone numbers of your choice. Of course the first number should be your cell phone, but you could also program the number of a neighbor that can check on your property in the event of a alarm break.
Loud sirens
Superman has kryptonite, a vampire has sunlight, but what do burglars hate.If you said noise ,and the attention it attracts, you are correct. This system comes with three powerful sirens. The first two are designed to be mounted inside the home, the third and most important one gets mounted outside.
Why is the exterior unit so important. The interior sirens have two functions, the first is to alert the home owners to the break in,if they happen to be at home. The second function is to let the intruder know that his presence is known, therefore act as a deterrent.
The problem is that as loud as these alarms are the sound they produce does not travel much farther than your property line, and depending on the spacing between your home and your closest neighbor, they may not hear anything. The exterior mounted siren is designed to be heard by your neighbors.
Minor shortcoming
If i could change anything about the aas-v500 wireless home security system, it would have to be the way the owners manual is written. If you intend to sell a product costing a few hundred dollars in a English speaking market, it would be nice if they used a native speaker to write the owners manual. My instruction manual was obviously translated from another language into English by a non native speaker. It was written using really clumsy wording, that was a little difficult to follow at times.
The other issue i had with the unit was the entry exit delay functions. It only allows you to program a one minute to a thirty minute delay…are you kidding me. I full appreciate the need for a delay function, but even a one minute delay is too long before the alarm should sound.I really believe they should offer the delay function in one second increments.
Overall, the aas-v500 wireless home security system provides its owners with more pluses than negatives. The price is also an absolute bargain, especially when you consider the replacement cost of just one piece of electronics in your home.
