Security cameras come in all shapes, sizes and feature ranges. Some are so tiny they can go in stuffed animals and be used to monitor children with out sticking out in the room.
Some are large and have ventilated enclosures, auto iris to adjust the exposure time so that there is always just the right amount of light. Some will let you look around the room or yard to see what may be out of the field of view of a regular camera. The outdoor cameras usually have infrared led lights to invisibly light up the darkness so you can see with out any visible light. That is nice because people wont notice the cameras are there until they already have their face on video.
Bullet cameras are small cameras that serve well inside the house. They can be night vision or not. Depending on what you want to pay. And as the name suggests they are in the shape of a bullet. Dome cameras are flush mount cameras that are vandal proof because there isn’t any part of the camera exposed. They can look in any direction but once they are aimed they are stuck there.
PTZ cameras are pan tilt zoom cameras and the name says it all. You will be able to look in any direction and zoom in or out to get a better view of anything around. Its like sticking your head out the door and taking a look around.
The auto iris functions like an eyelid where if someone shines a light at the camera the image will not just wash out. It will squint a little and give you your vision back. This along with auto focus is on the higher end home security cameras. Some home security cameras will allow you to record the video so you can go back and catch something you missed. How far back you go is all about how you record.
You can use a VCR, or a PC based recorder system. The VCR is going to be the cheapest way to go but the pc is going to be the safest way, there are no tapes to replace and if you need more space you just add a hard drive. The pc based system will allow you to remotely search your video history from anywhere that has a high speed internet connection. It will be as if you are sitting right at the DVR.
You can always find security cameras in bundles with a dvr. But depending on how comfortable you are with a drill you may need to have them installed by a professional installer, There is no replacement for the comfort you get from knowing your family and possessions are always under guard.
home security cameras are a great addition to a home security system. Not only can you catch someone in the act but you can prove it too. I have used and installed security cameras for many years and there is simply no replacement for video evidence.
